WindWalks & Tree Drawings-Tim Knowles

A walk guided by the wind, plotted by a GPS device, starting at Great Mis Tor and ending in Mistor Marsh, on hitting a section of blanket bog*
* Blanket bog is a layer of floating vegetation particularly moss over a body of water.

The final work is comprised of the GPS plot as a 4metre long graphite wall drawing,
a video of the walk [see stills above], a C-type print, an inkjet printed text, and the windvane.

Installation view 5m x 2m

	Messa di Voce: "Insect Nature Show" [16 Mb QT] The performers adopt complementary roles: Joan, as a peculiar kind of animal; and Jaap, as an abstract narrator. [ICA, London. &photos]
	Messa di Voce: "Bounce (Jaap's Solo)" [13 Mb QT] Jaap emits a stream of bubbles by making a special cheek-flapping sound. [ICA, London. &photos]
	Messa di Voce: "Pitchpaint" [12Mb QT] The performers paint bold gestures by singing. Descending pitches curl clockwise; ascending notes curl anti-clockwise. [ICA, London. &photos]
	Messa di Voce: "Ripple" [10Mb QT] Our attention turns to a pair of chirping, clicking wetland creatures, whose curious chatter perturbs their watery environs. [ICA, London. &photos]
	Messa di Voce: "Fluid" [4.2 Mb QT] A glowing fluid or plasma appears to emerge from the performers' mouths when they speak or sing. [ICA, London. &photos]

	Messa Installation (Insect Module) [2 Mb AVI] A four-year old child plays with his augmented shadow, in a version of the software installed at the Eyebeam gallery. [Eyebeam, NYC].

“I find myself inside the picture, beyond the wall that is perforated (though not, of course, in a material sense) by the mirror. On the contrary, since I cannot enter it physically, if I am to inquire into the structure of art I must make the picture move outward into reality, creating the ‘fiction’ of being myself beyond the mirror. At the present time it is easy to play on the identity between reality-object and art-object. A ‘thing’ is not art; but the idea expressed by that same ‘thing’ may be” (Michelangelo Pistoletto, I plexiglass, Galleria Sperone, Turin 1964).
